Summer market: Stop by the Heart of Avon Outdoor Market, 2536 Stoney Ridge Road (by the gazebo) from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 5 with special guests the Avon High School Chamber Ensemble, Avon Garden Club, Friendship APL, and Avon Historical Society. Local vendors will be showcasing unique handmade goods.
Free pool day: Bring your Lorain Public Library System (LPLS) library card to the Avon Pool, 36265 Detroit Road, for free admission between 11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Aug. 7. The event is for all LPLS cardholders only, regardless of residence. Cards from other CLEVNET libraries will not be accepted and each person is required to have an LPLS card, regardless of age. Digital cards will be accepted; just show the barcode from the CLEVNET app with the LPLS logo at the top.
Garden Club meeting: The Avon Garden Club will meet Aug. 18 in the Orchid Room at Miller Nature Preserve, 2739 Center Road. A “Lessons Learned from Bressingham Gardens” presentation from Tina Resser will be featured. Doors open at 6:30 pm with the free program starting at 7 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.
Voter registration: Join the Avon Democratic Club for a Voter Registration Drive-Through from 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 19 at the Avon Library, 37485 Harvest Drive.
School projects: Of the funds approved from the May 2025 bond issue, $20 million was earmarked for renovations to Eastview, Redwood, and Westview elementary schools. Phase 1 of the renovations is now underway, with substantial roofing projects taking place at all three buildings, addressing some of the worst spots in the district.
Following the first round of roof renovations, it is anticipated that the scope for the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) upgrades will be completed this fall, with the work being completed as feasible over the next few years. Renovating older buildings with major mechanical work, especially buildings from different eras, is tricky, and the architects and engineers are working hard to develop the plan.
The roofing work is progressing on schedule, and most of the work is slated to be completed by the first day of school (Aug. 18). Some finish work/metals is likely during the first weeks of school, but is scheduled to wrap up by Labor Day.
Got talent?: The Avon Lake Public Library (ALPL), 32649 Electric Blvd., is hosting an Open Mic Night from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 11. Come to perform or just come to enjoy an evening of live music and community. Online registration is open for performers (ages 14 and up).
In other library news…The ALPL Board of Trustees is seeking dedicated members of the community to apply for appointment to an open trustee position. Library Trustees are appointed by the Avon Lake Board of Education to serve four-year terms, and the new appointee will serve from January 2027 through December 2030. The ALPL Board consists of seven Trustees that are members of the Avon Lake community and are not compensated for their service to the Library.
The application is available online. The deadline to submit is Aug. 21.
Wellness center opens: Lake Erie Aesthetics & Wellness recently opened at their new location at The Landings, 32730 Walker Road, Suite F3-4, and also celebrated its three-year anniversary in Avon Lake.
Founded by co-owners, Dr. Janice Rice and Amber Keller, CNP, Lake Erie Aesthetics & Wellness offers a wide range of services, including injectables, laser treatments, infrared sauna and facials, spray tanning, microneedling, hormone support, fitness classes, and much more.
Feedback needed: City officials are developing a unified brand identity and are asking residents for their input. A survey is available on the city’s website.
City officials are also looking for residents interested in serving on the new Lakefront Futuring & Investment Ad Hoc Committee. The committee serves as a forum for public engagement and information sharing regarding lakefront redevelopment opportunities.
An application is available online and is due by 4:30 p.m. Aug. 7.
Upcoming concerts: There is still time to enjoy music during the city’s summer concert series. The next concert is from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 9 at Miller Road Park, 33760 Lake Road, and features Cuyahoga Slim. Food trucks onsite include Hofbrahaus and CLE Cookie Dough.
Additional concerts this month include during the CLE Market from 4 to 8 p.m. Aug. 13 at Veterans’ Memorial Park, 32756 Lake Road, and features Quinn Hoffman performing from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Food trucks onsite include Papa Sal's Kitchen and Donut NV.
Miller Road Park will also be the location for the Cheeseburgers in Paradise concert from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 23. Food trucks include Braised in the CLE and CLE Cookie Dough.

City council update: City Council members recently voted to allow the mayor to enter into an agreement with Dane Contractors, Inc. for the mitigation, remediation, repair and reconstruction of the city hall building. The ordinance approves the amount of $196,000 in relation to the flooding of city hall that was experienced the weekend of May 10, 2026.
The city’s Law Director noted that the very final number of construction costs may change as the project commences, which might possibly create the need for a slight amendment to the contract. He also noted that the insurance claim for damages required only one $5,000 deductible.
Council will also review the proposed Ronyak Paving Company contract for the paving of Wolf Road, from Bassett to Bradley Road. A letter dated June 22, 2026, from Cuyahoga County Executive Chris Ronayne noted that the county is allocating money next year for the Porter Creek to Bassett Road repaving of Wolf Road. This will allow the repaving of Wolf Road from Clague Road to Bradley Road within the next two years.
Corn Festival: Make plans to attend the 51st annual Corn Festival Aug. 7-9 on Bainbridge Road at South Central Park. There are so many events and activities throughout the weekend which are all listed online.
Lions Club Race: The Run the Ridge 5K Run/Walk and Kids’ Fun Run returns to Ranger Stadium, 34600 Bainbridge Road, at 8:30 a.m. Aug. 8. This year’s commemorative finisher medals will celebrate America 250-OH. Registration is available online.
Rotary Club service project: The Rotary Club is supporting Neighborhood Alliance with their Essentials Summer Service Project to fill 100 adult totes and 48 kids’ backpacks by Aug. 21. The shelter has expressed a specific need for undergarments.
Summer concert: The final concert of the season is from 5 to 8 p.m. Aug. 16 at South Central Park, 7565 Avon Belden Road. Bring your lawn chair and enjoy the music of Hip to That. The Cleveland-based quartet specializes in a wide variety of genres including jazz and pop/rock.
State champs: Congratulations to the North Ridgeville High School Skeet, Sporting Clays, and Trap teams on capturing the 2026 State Championship.
Safety improvements: The city was recently awarded over $1.8 million through the Ohio Department of Transportation’s Highway Safety Improvement Program to support sidewalk and pedestrian safety improvements along Lorain Road (State Route 10). The award was announced July 23 as part of a $72 million statewide investment in 33 transportation safety projects across 23 Ohio counties. The Highway Safety Improvement Program targets locations where infrastructure improvements can help reduce fatal and serious injury crashes.
The Lorain Road Systemic Safety Pedestrian Improvements project will address gaps in sidewalk coverage along Lorain Road, extending from Bliss Parkway through the Interstate 480 interchange area. Other planned improvements include new pedestrian countdown signals and pushbuttons at several intersections as well as enhanced crosswalk markings and ADA-accessible curb ramps.
The corridor is identified as a High Priority Pedestrian Segment on ODOT’s Safety Map Viewer and is included in the city’s Active Transportation Plan which can be viewed online.
Once completed, the project will provide residents with a safer, more continuous route for walking and biking along this section of Lorain Road.
School projects: Summer provides an opportunity to complete important facility improvement projects across the Rocky River City School district.
The most visible projects this year will be the replacement of the high school’s stadium turf and the installation of new stadium lighting. Both projects were approved by the Board of Education earlier this year with completion before the start of the fall athletic season.
In addition, the district will complete several other capital improvement projects, including HVAC upgrades, roofing improvements, parking lot maintenance, and numerous smaller projects throughout our learning spaces.
Summer concert/market: The final summer concert and CLE Market of the season will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Aug. 14 at the city’s municipal complex, 21012 Hilliard Blvd. Performing at 6 p.m is Sean Brewster.
Comedy show: The Senior Center, 21012 Hilliard Blvd., presents, “The Brothers Grimm Spectaculation,” a comedy by Don Zolidis, Aug. 12 at 7 p.m.; and Aug. 13-14 at 1:30 p.m. Tickets are $3 and children under 12 are free.
Grand opening: The grand opening of the Westlake Porter Public Library’s Space Exploration Lab has been rescheduled for 7 p.m. Aug. 6 at the library, 27333 Center Ridge Road. The grand opening originally scheduled for earlier this month had to be rescheduled due to an unexpected power outage.
Grant funding finalists: Impact100 Cleveland, a new women’s collective giving organization serving Greater Cleveland, is marking its inaugural grant cycle with nearly 100 nonprofit organizations applying for funding. After months of application reviews and site visits conducted by volunteer members, the group will announce its five finalists next week.
The community is invited to “Meet the Finalists,” a free public event from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Aug. 10 at Bloom Social Haus, 25895 Detroit Road, where attendees can meet the nonprofit leaders, learn about each transformational project, and see firsthand how the members will ultimately award the inaugural $70,000 grant.
Expanding hope: The Village Project recently announced that it's expanded its service area to include families living in Fairview Park.
This expansion brings the non-profit one step closer to its vision of providing healthy meals to every person affected by cancer throughout the serving area. Families in Fairview Park who are undergoing active cancer treatment will now be able to receive nourishing meals and extended support, completely free of charge.
