There's now a device at Padre Pio Academy that nobody hopes to use — and everybody's glad is there.
Thanks to Community West Foundation, ZOLL Cardiac Management Solutions, and Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital, the Lakewood school (all 90 students of it) just got a brand-new AED for its emergency kit. It's part of the Straight from the Heart Campaign, which has quietly funded heart health on the Westside for 22 years running.
Quick refresher: an AED is the portable device that reads someone's heart rhythm during sudden cardiac arrest and, if needed, delivers a shock to restart it.
Headmistress Christine Joyce put it best: "This lifesaving device brings an added sense of safety and peace of mind to our campus."
