Empty Bowls by the Lake: Soup, Bread and a Bowl You Keep, All for $25

Empty Bowls by the Lake returns Saturday, Nov. 7, at Avon Lake High School. A $25 donation gets you soup from more than 25 local restaurants, Panera bread and a handmade pottery bowl to take home. Every dollar goes to local food pantries.

Soup, bread, and a bowl you get to keep, all for $25.

That's the whole pitch. It's also the easiest good deed on your November calendar.

When and where is Empty Bowls by the Lake?

What do you get?

The bowl is the point. You eat out of it, then it goes home with you and sits in your cabinet as a reminder that somebody nearby went without.

Where does the money go?

All proceeds go to Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio and other local food pantries.

Empty Bowls by the Lake has been helping feed the hungry in Lorain County since 2012. In that time, the community has given more than $198,000 to the local organizations that put food on our neighbors' tables.

Tips for going

Warm soup, a good cause and something handmade to take home. November doesn't get much better than that.
